ESS5 Error in variable UEMP5YR (F38), Lithuania

An error has been detected in the Lithuanian data related to variable UEMP5YR ("Any period of unemployment and work seeking within last 5 years") in Lithuania.

An error has been detected in the Lithuanian data related to variable UEMP5YR ("Any period of unemployment and work seeking within last 5 years") in Lithuania.

The deposited and published variable is simply a duplicate of UEMP12M ("Any period of unemployment and work seeking lasted 12 months or more").

The ESS Data Archive is liaising with the Lithuanian national coordinator for ESS at the time of ESS5 in order to be able to correct the variable for future updates of the integrated ESS5 data file.

In the meantime, we advise our users to set the variable UEMP5YR to system missing for Lithuanian records in the data set.

ESS9 Error in weights, Cyprus

Error in ESS9 weights and the sampling documentation for Cyprus.

Error in ESS9 weights and the sampling documentation for Cyprus.

Recent information reveals that an unequal-probability clustered design has been used in rural areas of Cyprus instead of a single stage design, upon which the current weights and sample design indicators are based. True design effects are thus likely substantially higher than those estimated using the current weights and psu indicators. The result of this is a probable under-estimation of standard errors for analysis of the Cypriot data for ESS9, with some modest effects on substantive estimates also possible.

We will get back with more information on possible corrected weights and sample design variables.
