Understanding key challenges for European societies in the 21st Century

13-15 July 2016

University of Lausanne, Switzerland

The 3rd International ESS Conference - Understanding key challenges for European societies in the 21st Century - took place at the University of Lausanne in summer 2016.

The conference showcased research that uses data from the ESS to address a range of substantive issues highly relevant to European societies. These included, but were not limited to: migration, work and family life, wellbeing, health, welfare, political engagement and social norms and values. Practical and policy implications of the research were drawn out wherever possible.

The conference showed the depth and breadth of scientifically rigorous research made possible as a result of the high quality comparative data provided by the ESS. It brought together data users from around the world from a range of disciplines to share ideas.

The conference was organised by the ESS and Swiss Centre of Expertise in the Social Sciences (FORS).
