At each round of the survey, multi-national teams of researchers are selected to contribute to the design of two rotating modules for the questionnaire. Rotating modules are selected by means of a Call for Proposals placed in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) and circulated via the European Science Foundation and relevant National Science Foundations. Applicants may apply for 'new' or 'repeat' modules. A full explanation of what this means is included in the Call for Proposals.

The Call for Proposals for Questionnaire Design Teams (QDTs) for Round 6 of the ESS has now closed. The call for proposals for Round 7 is expected to be issued in late 2011 or early 2012 (subject to funding decisions).
