At each round of the survey, multi-national teams of researchers are selected to contribute to the design of two or more rotating modules for the questionnaire. Rotating modules are selected by means of a Call for Proposals placed in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) and circulated via the European Science Foundation and relevant National Science Foundations.

Following a Call for Proposals from Questionnaire Design Teams (QDTs), two proposals for Round 5 were selected by the Scientific Advisory Board. Full details can be found here.

The call for Round 6 (likely once again to be for both 'new' and 'repeat' modules) will be made either later in 2009 or during 2010 subject to funding of future rounds of the ESS.
